Learning Japanese?

We introduce Japanese language to the youth in our community.

Ages from 8 through 16 and it covers conversational skills, reading, writing and we also introduce Japanese traditions and customs.

​The beginners class covers Hiragana and very basic grammar and vocabulary. The intermediate classes cover Katakana, maybe a few Kanji, and more basic grammar. In the advanced class, we learn Kanji and more advanced grammar, such as Te Form and Short Form verb conjugations (like いかない as opposed to いきません).

WHERE WE ARE

私たちは開校以来地元のMetcalf Schoolの校舎を借りて授業を行っています。イリノイ州大学の付属小学校で大学の広いキャンパスの中にあり、毎週土曜日はほぼわれわれだけが構内の教室他、各種施設を利用させてもらっていて、大変恵まれた環境にあります。

​We have been using the facility of Thomas Metcalf School since 1986. It is located in the middle of Illinois State University campus and we can use most of their facilities every Saturday.

What we do

一年間は日本と同じように４月から３月まで、年間４１乃至４２日のカリキュラムを組んでいます。毎年６月に運動会、そして１１月には学習発表会などが大きな行事として計画されています。発足以来地元の大学付属小学校の校舎を借りて恵まれた教育環境の中で授業はもちろん、運動場・ジムの施設もフルに利用することができます。 また図書室も数多くの蔵書をそろえていて児童・生徒、さらには保護者にも利用されています。

 

Our school year runs from April to March, just like in Japan, for 41 or 42 Saturdays. We have some big events like Sport Day (June) and Exhibition of Learning (Nov.). The facility of Metcalf Laboratory School that we have been using since 1986 allows us to enjoy full use of class rooms as well as gym and outdoor playground. Our library keeps many books that are useful for children and also for parents.

わたしたちの学校はイリノイ州の真ん中にあるブルーミントン市とノーマル町の二つの町（双子都市）にあります。 シカゴとセントルイスのほぼ中間に位置して、それぞれ自動車で２時間から３時間の場所です。 １９８６年に開校して以来毎週土曜日イリノイ州の中部に住む家族を対象に日本語補習校として小学生・中学生の教育に携わってきています。 授業の内容は日本政府から支給を受けた教科書をもとに国語、算数・数学と上級生には社会科の三教科を日本の児童・生徒と同じレベルで行います。

We are located in the heart of Illinois, Bloomington-Normal. Since our establishment in 1986, we have been engaged in the education of students from both Japanese and local families in Japanese language based on the Japanese government mandated curriculum, from the 1st grade to the 9th grade.
